Multi-Factor Authentication

Vokal requires multi-factor authentication for all AWS accounts. The following instructions cover creating a new IAM account for AWS with MFA enabled.

Step 1: Add a user

From the AWS web console got to Identity & Access Management.

Select Users from the side navigation.

Click Create New Users.

Enter the user name(s) and click Create.

Be sure to download the security credentials if prompted.

Step 2: Create a password of user

From the Users list, select the new user. Click User Actions and choose Manage Password.

Select Assign an auto-generated password and Require user to create a new password at next sign-in.

Step 3: Enable MFA for user

In order to perform these actions, the user will need to have downloaded the Google Authenticator application for their mobile device. They will also need to be present with you in order to scan a QR code that will be displayed.

From the Users list, select the new user. Click User Actions and choose Manage MFA Device.

Select A virtual MFA device and click Next Step.

Scan the QR code using Google Authenticator, then enter the first code displayed. After the timer on that code expires, enter the next code then click Activate Virtual MFA.
